Update your look for Spring

Spring is here, and spring cleaning your closet shouldn’t be the only thing on your mind. If you live in the North, where it’s colder, how about updating your look for the warmer weather that’s here or about to happen. How about a celebration of you with a splash of color on the cheeks, eyes and lips.

For a modern, springy feeling, you should put color somewhere on the face. One color, maybe two, even three, but for those who want to start with one color, you might want to opt for a coral or pink blush. From pale white skin, to chocolate or olive-colored, pink goes well with just about all skin tones.

Other stuff to try? If you haven’t already jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon, you really should. Even to just experiment. Mineral makeup is usually lightweight (unlike typically heavy foundations) and will give your skin a healthy glow instead of the fake, made-up look.

Last word - don’t forget your SPF. No other factor ages the face more than sun damage. Always use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 to prevent damage.

Hot New Makeup Products for 2008

Just about everyday, a brand new makeup product or line is launched. Below I’ve featured three hot new makeup products for 2008:

1) Skin Loving Minerals by Prestige Cosmetics
This is Prestige Cosmetics’ new line of mineral makeup. Its hypo-allergenic powders are 100% talc, oil, paraben and fragrance free, making them ideal for skin that’s sensitive to clogged pores, redness, acne, irritation and dryness. The Skin Loving Minerals Collection includes bronzing powder, blush, eye shadow, mineral powder foundation, finishing powder, eyeliner and a 3-in-1 concealer.

2) S.I. Color
Jennifer Flavin-Stallone, former model, and wife of movie star Sylvester Stallone, recently launched here her new skin, beauty and health care line, Seriesse International. S.I. Color is the cosmetics line, with its aim being to help women achieve that perfect “natural look.” Using classic and neutral shades that are designed to work on all skin tones, the line includes powder, lip color, mineral blush, concealer, bronzer, eye shadow quads and liners. Notably, the Lip Color, comes in five amazing shades - Toffee, Wine, Apricot Sun, Plumberry and Nude.

3) TLC Mascara by Genie Beauty
Genie Beauty launched this new mascara line just last month. It employs a patented applicator that’s designed specifically to achieve the “perfect look” for both top and bottom eye lashes, and, unlike traditional mascaras with their “one size fits all” applicators, the TLC Mascara wand has a dual brush applicator - a larger brush for adding volume, thickness and length to the top lashes, and a smaller brush to give definition and color to the shorter, harder to reach bottom lashes.

Traditional Japanese Makeup

Kay Montano of the UK’s daily mail did an excellent piece today on Japanese / Eastern-inspired makeup trends. The Japanese are known for possessing a knowledge of many natural beauty and healthcare secrets. But it was only around 20 years ago that we were finally let into the secret, when brands such as Shu Uemura, Shiseido and Kanebo started cropping up in the UK’s best department stores. See the complete article here.
