Natural Hues Are In For Summer 2009

Summer’s almost here and natural hues are the trend this year. Colors are ‘in’ this spring, and for sure it’s the perfect time to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.

So listen up – shades of violet and blue will match those who are fair skinned, while medium tones are perfect for those in the bronze family. Trying a different color eyeliner (such as metallic bronze) can make the eyes stand out. Darker tones need to play with deep or lighter greens in order to make the skin glow.

The timeless “natural look” will always be around, especially during the summer heat. A nude lip color or a gel-based “girlie” color will help compliment a natural appearance. The “smokey eye”, another classic look, can be achieved without using black shadow – just use violets or greens.
Go easy on the foundation, and only apply it where you need it. If you really want to be more natural, try not wearing eyeliner, and instead just wear mascara.

Naturally also, skin care is very important, especially during the summer. A sunscreen of SPF-15 or a moisturizer with sunscreen is a must-have.Try to drinkwater regularly, and also try to find a good skin care product that has fruit or certain food extracts in it that can help to maintain healthy skin. Oily skin is a problem because of the humidity, so carrying around oil-trapping face sheets can help prevent breakouts and keep your skin looking great.

That’s all for now. Rock your natural hues this summer in order to look fab! Stay beautiful …

It’s Earth Day – Recycle Your Makeup

Today, April 22, 2009, is Earth Day. Earth Day is a day that’s designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970, and is celebrated in many countries every year, including right here in the U.S.

Here’s my bit for Earth Day today – recycle your makeup. You can become ‘eco-chic’ in many ways. Buying eco-friendly products is one thing, but how about recycling your makeup! Here’s how:

  • Mix products together to create new shades – for e.g., use the remnants of an old eye shadow to customize new shades of lip gloss, eyeliner or nail polish. Mix and match to get creative!
  • Create your own polish or gloss – for e.g. mix your old clear nail polish with one of the twenty Napoleon Perdis Loose Dust shades.
  • Breathe new life into your mascara – by adding some drops of baby oil to it; this will lengthen your supply and keep it fresh.
  • Create your own eyeliner – create numerous shades of liner by taking eyeliner sealer and dabbing it into your favorite eye shadow. This will turn the shadow into liquid eyeliner. You can also dip the Sealer into the loose dust/powder (mentioned above) and brush it onto your lashes – voila, no mascara needed!

That’s it for now. Enjoy Earth Day and do your part by recycling your makeup.

Tips for laying your makeup base

  • The most important thing is to find the right color, and the best place to match the color is along your jawline
  • Once you have selected your color, apply your makeup foundation sparingly … you can always add more, if needed
  • If you’re using a liquid or cream foundation, apply your concealer after the foundation
  • If you are using a powder foundation, apply your concealer before the foundation
  • Apply your finishing powder with a puff first to the areas that normally get oily (you know yourself)
  • Follow with a light dusting of powder all over the face

Who has to know we aren’t perfect?

No one! with Benefit’s perfect “yuk to wow” make up products, inconvenient blemishes and blotchy skin raining on our parade are a thing of the past! One of my personal favorites is lemon-aid. Its an eye correcting cream that reduces redness and blotchiness…with few pats and blends our tired are gone.
I had such a fun time at the Benefit counter…. Another favorite find is brow zings, “the ultimate brow kit”. It even comes with a mini tweezer so you can pluck any stray hairs while you are on the go. It comes with a wax to shape and fill in your brows and then a powder to set the wax.

Take care till we chat again about more amazing make up :)

Cheers,
SiennaOhSoFab
